The rollercoaster ride that is Bcm112 is slowly coming to a gradual stop. What a journey it’s been. The past 10 weeks have given me a solid base to build, regarding blogging. Reflecting upon weekly topics through blog posts has allowed me gain a firm grip on my chosen emerging platform, the Kindle/E-reader and where it fits among our converging technological culture.
What lay ahead is three of my favourite blog posts from the second half of this session (in no particular order).
With the Boston Bombings occurring a month ago, the topic of citizen journalism and collective intelligence was extremely relevant. This post was thoroughly enjoyable, as I was able to examine the inevitable convergence of professional media with ordinary citizens.
“ Macho World”
This topic took me by total surprise. Reading over the material for “mencallmethings: Identity and Difference online”; my expectations were not at the level they were for previous lectures. However, my feelings towards this topic were quickly transformed when the facts were revealed. The lecture revealed the blatant level of equality online and the heavy influence of the “Brogrammer”. The tutorial was also eye opening, regarding feminism and sexualized trolling that occurs online.
“Kony Twenty- Twe…!!!!!!…….Shut up!!”
“Clicktivism” + “Slacktivism”, two of the most valuable and interesting terms Bcm112 has educated me on. This post regarding the facilitation of these concepts was by far the most enjoyable, due to my strong opinion on the topic. Being partly interested in this subject matter, the words flowed naturally, as I discussed the links between slacktivism and the Kony 2012 campaign.
Without doubt, the blogging assignment of Bcm112 has been one of the more challenging, yet fascinating projects I have ever taken on. I now feel confident when researching or contributing to a blog and am ready for whatever task awaits in the future.
Peace.
